Queen Letizia and King Felipe of Spain looked effortlessly chic in a suit as she greeted athletes with King Felipe in Madrid today. Letizia, 52, looked in high spirits as she stepped out with a warm smile on her face in a stunning ensemble. The event - which took place at the El Pardo Palace - was put on for Olympians and Paralympians who competed in Paris this year. The mother-of-two put her best fashion foot forward and donned a burgundy outfit consisting of a tailored blazer and matching smart trousers. She paired the stand-out piece with a black blouse featuring a pussy bow, highly polished black boots and glitzy gold stud earrings. Her husband, King Felipe, 56, looked dapper in a chequered grey suit which he paired with a crisp blue shirt, red patterned tie and shiny brown loafers. The royal couple personally congratulated the contestants on their medals and titles that they bagged in the French capital this year. They both joined royals from across the world in cheering on their countries at various games in the summer. Letizia was pictured bending down and greeting a Paralympian in a wheelchair by kissing her on the cheek. Elsewhere, she shook hands of athletes donning the colours of the Spanish flag - red and yellow. Letizia looked typically stylish as she wore her brunette tresses down in a sleek straightened blow-dry. The Queen opted to wear glamorous makeup, sporting purple sparkly eyeshadow, blush, highlight and lip gloss. King Felipe and Queen Letizia took to the stage and made a speech to the crowd, before posing for one large group photo. It comes as the royal couple were pelted with mud and heckled during a visit to Paiporta on November 3. Valencia was hit with severe flash floods last month which have killed more than 200 people. Areas of Spain such as Valencia, Catalonia and Andalusia regions, as well as the Balearic Islands, are on orange alert for more torrential rain and low temperatures. Letizia cried as she spoke to a woman in Paiporta, after mud was thrown in her face. The flood victim chatting to Letizia, who gave her name as Alicia, appeared to offer the emotional Queen a shoulder to cry on and a comforting embrace in a series of images that went viral following the royal visit . But Alicia recently now set the record straight - she was not there to console, but to confront. 'People have called me from all over, from Italy , from Romania ... they say that I was trying to console the queen. 'What I was telling her was that they had not seen anything of what happened, that they should go into the town,' Alicia told Las Provincias , recounting the moment that left Letizia struggling to maintain composure. 'This could have been avoided.' Survivors recounted their harrowing experiences while others pelted the monarchs with mud and chanted 'murderers!' Letizia looked on several occasions to be overwhelmed by the torrent of anger after mudslingers in the crowd left her face spattered with dirt. Eyes bulging from her head, the Queen was seen gingerly rubbing her temples in an attempt to remain calm before she burst into tears amid her conversation with Alicia. 'All she could say was, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry",' Alicia recalled. King Felipe was also pelted with mud and objects, such as drink cans, by frustrated survivors of the deadly floods as he walked through the muddy streets . Letizia also met with representatives from Code.org at the royal residence in Madrid yesterday to discuss the importance of teaching computer science in schools, especially to young girls. The non-profit organises the annual Hour of Code - a movement that sees 10 per cent of pupils across the globe coding for one hour during Computer Science Education Week in December.
