Susan Shultz Obituary
Susan C. Shultz, age 69, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on October 22, 2024 in Reading, Pennsylvania.
She was born in West Chester, Pennsylvania on May 20, 1955 to William and Nancy (Shutts) Calhoun. After attending Great Valley High School, she went on to pursue a bachelors degree at the University of Pittsburgh where she met her beloved husband of 45 years, Eric.
Her passion for teaching and love of children led to a 38-year career in early childhood education, most of which were for Berks County Intermediate Unit's Head Start preschool program. In that role, "Miss Sue" provided endless joy, compassion, care, and knowledge to countless young children.
Sue was the heart and soul of her family and everyone who met her noted her kind hearted and caring nature. Her resiliency, determination, and positive outlook in life were something to behold. She enjoyed reading, game nights, music, fishing, trips to the cabin, spending time with her family, and was an avid football fan. She carried immense joy in raising her children and being an Oma to her granddaughter, with whom she would sing, play, teach, and watch her grow. She will be forever remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.
Sue was predeceased by her father, William Calhoun.
She is survived by her husband, Eric Shultz; daughters, Lisa Shultz and Sarah (Chuck) Palisano; grandchild, Brynn Palisano; mother, Nancy (William) Calhoun; sisters, Linda (Frank) Meehan and Patricia (Robert) Gabreski; her nieces and nephews, Derek (Tayissa) Gabreski, Chad Gabreski, Scott (Jamie) Gabreski, Andrea (Kevin) Miller, and Heather Yohn; as well as many cousins and friends.
Visiting hours will be held on November 9, 2024 from 10-12:00pm at the Bednar Funeral Home, 2910 Pricetown Road, Temple (Alsace Twp). A memorial service will begin at 12:00pm and be immediately followed by a luncheon where friends and family can celebrate her life and share fond memories.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks those who are willing to give the gift of life by donating blood in Sue's honor at a Miller-Keystone Blood Center (www.giveapint.org), or any donation center of their choice.
