Suspect arrested in shooting that killed Venezuelan man

DENVER ( KDVR ) — A 20-year-old was arrested in connection to a shooting that killed a man from Venezuela outside an Aurora liquor store.

According to the Aurora Police Department Major Crime Homicide Unit , Davonte McCoy Bletson, 20, was taken into custody in Denver on a charge of second-degree murder.

Aurora police said they were assisted by the Aurora fugitive unit, FBI Denver, Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force, Denver police and the Denver Police Department SWAT Team.

The arrest is in connection to a deadly shooting from Friday night . Aurora police told FOX31 that officers responded to the 15500 block of East Colfax Avenue.

According to a preliminary investigation, two men traveled to a local liquor store and got into an argument with two other unknown men and a woman in the parking lot. The argument escalated to a physical fight before shots were fired.

On Monday night, Aurora police identified the victim as a 38-year-old man who is a native of Venezuela. Police confirmed the victim was not a resident of the nearby Whispering Pines apartment and was not a resident of any other Aurora complexes that have been connected to gang violence.

Bletson is being held at the Arapahoe County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
