Suspect dead in police shooting in east Plano: Police

An investigation is underway into a deadly shooting involving police in east Plano Friday night. Police say they were called to a disturbance at around 4:45 p.m. at an apartment complex in the 4700 block of 14th Street near E. Plano Parkway.

In a news release late Friday night, Plano police said they were called to the scene about a woman threatening individuals inside the residence with a firearm and behaving erratically. The person who called the police also said she was making threatening remarks about shooting officers.

When officers arrived they saw a woman holding a firearm and according to the news release tried to de-escalate the situation.

Despite negotiation efforts, police said the woman remained non-compliant and her behavior was increasingly erratic and that's when an officer shot her.

Plano police officers rendered medical aid, and Plano-Fire Rescue took her to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead, according to Plano police. The woman's name has not been released pending notification of her next of kin.

The officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave per department policy.

Police said and a joint investigation is being conducted by the Plano Police Department's CAPERs Unit and the Collin County District Attorney's Office.
