Suspected Car Burglars Nabbed By State Police In Mansfield Two people were caught after a car break-in at a Mansfield cul-de-sac, state police said.

MANSFIELD, CT — State police said they caught two people trying to leave the scene of a vehicle break-in on a road in Mansfield.

At 2:47 a.m. Wednesday, state police were dispatched to the area of Warren Circle in Mansfield following reports of a man and woman breaking into vehicles. The suspects were reported to be driving a dark-colored SUV and were seen leaving the area, state police said.

As a state trooper entered the cul-de-sac of Warren Circle, he observed a dark-colored Volkswagen sport utility vehicle with Massachusetts plates with two people in it leaving the area, according to an incident report.

After stopping the vehicle, the trooper approached the Volkswagen and made contact with the driver, identified as Joseph T. Walker 34, of Worcester, MA, and the passenger, identified as 24-year-old Jada Disire Williams, also of Worcester, and both stated they were unfamiliar with the area and were seeking directions, according to an incident report. They also said that Williams had a family member living nearby and that they were on their way back to Worcester., according to an incident report.

The trooper then noticed a large pickaxe in the back seat, along with several jackets and two purses—one in the back seat and one in the front seat area, according to an incident report.

A trooper recognized Walker and Williams from a previous larceny investigation in Tolland the week before, according to an incident report. The pair matched descriptions of two people involved in the theft of a purse from a vehicle, from which a credit card was taken and used at a gas station in Tolland, according to an incident report.

Another trooper who was was canvassing the area of the stop in Mansfield discovered a Honda Accord with a smashed window that appeared to have been rummaged through, according to an incident report.

Walker was in possession of the stolen credit card from the Tolland incident, according to an incident report.

The caller who alerted state police said she was working at a facility in the area and noticed a dark-colored SUV driving the wrong way through the Mansfield cul-de-sac, according to an incident report. She told police she heard a loud noise and then saw a pair rummaging through a Honda accord, according to an incident report. The owner of the Honda later provided Troopers with a list of items that were missing from her vehicle, according to an incident report.

Both Walker and Williams were transported to the Troop C barracks and charged separately with:

  • Possession of burglar tools
  • Second-degree criminal mischief
  • Fourth-degree larceny
  • Third-degree identity theft
  • Both Walker and Williams were each assigned a $150,000 bond, which they were unable to post. Both are scheduled were to be arraigned in Rockville Superior Court on Wednesday, state police said.

    The larceny in Tolland remains under investigation, state police said.
