Ector County crash involving pedestrian leaves one man dead

ECTOR COUNTY, Texas (KMID/KPEJ)- A Monday morning crash involving a pedestrian and vehicle left one Odessa man dead.

According to the Texas Department of Public Saftey crash report, around 1:16 a.m., on Monday, November 4th, 54-year-old driver Lori Lee Carbery from Odessa, was traveling westbound on West University in the inside lane, when a pedestrian walking south across the westbound lanes was reported to have failed to yield the right of way to Carbery and was hit.

The pedestrian, later identified as 51-year-old Joel Tijerina Jr. from Odessa, was pronounced dead at the scene by Odessa EMS, according to officials.

Reports showed that this crash remains under investigation and that no further information is available at this time.

Based on reports by Texas DPS, it is unknown if next of kin have been contacted.
