Suspected drugs: I-480

An officer at 9:04 p.m. on Sept. 16 spotted a woman biting her nails while driving 67 mph in a 60-mph zone on I-480 near Stearns Road.

The female driver, when asked to produce her driver's license, reached into a fanny pack, and the officer spotted a clear plastic bag with green lettering that he suspected contained drugs. The woman appeared nervous, according to a police report.

The officer asked the woman if she had anything illegal, and she initially denied having any illegal substances. However, when the officer said he spotted the suspicious bag, she said it contained ketamine, an anesthetic also used to treat depression. She said she did not have a prescription.

Officers recovered the small plastic bag, which contained clear crystals. They also located another small plastic bag with three blue squares, which the woman said were "acid," according to the police report. The woman also told the officer that a pill recovered from the vehicle was ecstasy, according to the police report.

The woman was cited for speeding and additional charges are pending results from lab testing on the seized materials, according to the police report.

Suspected drugs: Country Club Boulevard

An off-duty police officer at 2:40 p.m. on Sept. 17 attempted to stop two women suspected of shoplifting as they left the Dillard's department store at Great Northern Mall.

One of the women walked away from the officer while the second woman talked to him. The woman refused to turn over her purse, but the officer took control of the purse after the two "wrestled" over it, according to a police report. The woman then left the scene. Inside the purse, the officer found a $94 pair of jeans and a small plastic bag containing a clear crystal substance consistent with methamphetamine, according to the police report. The purse also contained a driver's license identifying the suspect.

Charges may be filed pending drug testing results, according to the police report.

OVI: Lorain Road

The driver of a pickup truck is charged with OVI, speeding, and driving in violation of restrictions on his license after he was clocked traveling 58 mph in a 35-mph zone, according to the police department.

An officer stopped the vehicle at 3:55 a.m. on Sept. 22 on Lorain Road near Christman Drive. The driver's eyes were "glossy," and his speech was slurred, according to a police report. The driver had difficulty following instructions during a field sobriety test and then declined to complete the tests, at which time he was arrested.
