TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Tampa Police Department is reminding residents to stick to shooting fireworks into the sky this 4th of July.

TPD sent a text message to residents Monday afternoon regarding "celebratory gunfire."

"Tampa Police remind everyone that celebratory gunfire is illegal," the text message said. "What goes up must come down, and within a two-mile radius."

It is against Florida law to fire a gun in public or on residential property.

The police department also released a video on social media with officers from its aviation unit reminding residents to celebrate responsibly.

"The Tampa Police Department is going to be watching everywhere, from the air, to the land, to the sea," officers said.

Bullets can reach up to 9,000 feet high, according to TPD.
