TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Chaos ensued Wednesday at Lincoln High School after a fight broke out between a student and a staff member near lunchtime.

A 17-year-old female student is now facing charges and the staff member — who district officials say serves as a hall monitor — is now on leave, according to the Leon County Sheriff's Office and the school district.

A Leon County Schools spokesperson said the altercation unfurled in the cafeteria at about noon Wednesday. Videos posted on social media show shouting students huddled around two people brawling on the school's tile floors.

The social media posts then showed dozens of students physically pulling the two apart to break up the fight.

The 17-year-old is charged with attempted robbery by sudden snatching and battery on a school official, the sheriff's office said.

It is unclear if the hall monitor will face any charges in relation to the skirmish. LCSO declined to answer questions asking if she will face charges, saying officials are actively investigating the case and "looking into possible other players."

It is also unclear if the hall monitor is on paid or unpaid leave. LCS spokesperson Chris Petley said she will remain on leave for the duration of the investigation.

As for the student, the district declined to share what specific disciplinary actions they may enforce.

"Law enforcement is investigating and the students will face consequences as outlined in the student code of conduct," Petley wrote in a message.
