Teen boy accused in deadly shooting inside South Shore residence

CHICAGO — A teen boy accused in the murder of a woman inside a residence on the South Side this week is now facing a felony charge.

According to Chicago police, a 17-year-old boy, who has not been identified due to his age, was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder in connection with a deadly shooting that left a 43-year-old woman dead on Thursday afternoon.

Police said the shooting unfolded just before 4 p.m. in the 6800 block of South Cornell Avenue, in South Shore.

Officers said the woman was inside a residence in the area when the teen boy allegedly approached and opened fire, leaving her with four gunshot wounds to her head.

The woman was transported to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Officers later recovered a gun from the scene.

The victim was later identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as 43-year-old Tatanisha Jackson.

According to police, the alleged gunman initially fled from the scene but later turned himself in to police just before 10 p.m. on Thursday.

Currently, it is unclear what led to the shooting and police have not yet identified the victim.
