LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)– The Ingham County Sheriff's Office confirmed a 13-year-old girl died after she was transferred to a local hospital from a head-on collision crash in Delhi Township.

Deputies say the incident happened at the intersection of Holt and College Roads, just before 7 a.m. on Thursday.

Investigators say a 20-year-old Holt woman driving an SUV was traveling east on Holt Road when she turned north into the path of another SUV. A 40-year-old man from Onodaga and his three kids drove off the road and hit a utility pole.

The 40-year-old man and his three kids ages 7, 11, and 13, were transported to a local hospital for what deputies say for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say after investigators followed up with the family hours later, they learned that the 13-year-old needed emergency surgery and was listed in critical condition. She later died in the hospital, police say.

The Ingham County Sheriff's Office said in a post the crash is still under investigation. Police say to call Sergeant Adam Jackson if anyone has any helpful information. The number is 517-676-8212.

When Daniel Penny wrapped his arm around the neck of a homeless man on a Manhattan subway last year, the 25-year-old veteran appeared to be deploying a non-lethal chokehold long drilled into U.S. Marines. Done right, the maneuver should knock a person out without killing them, according to Joseph Caballer, a combat instructor in the Marine Corps who trained Penny in several types of holds. Prosecutors allege that Penny "went way too far" in his attempt to restrain Neely, showing an "indifference" toward his life even after he had lost consciousness and stopped fighting back.
