GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — A 16-year-old male has been charged with the shooting death of another teenager earlier Thursday on Glen Dale Drive in Greenville.

The teenage suspect is jailed in the Pitt County Juvenile Detention Center facing an open count of murder.

Law enforcement responded to the shooting at 11:55 a.m. Upon arrival, they found 17-year-old Keshawn Montrale Barrett suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Barrett was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Officers tracked the suspect to a dead-end area on Deck Street where he was taken into custody. The suspect is not from the Greenville area. Law enforcement officers believe the two teens got into an argument that led to the shooting.

The suspect's name is not being released due to his age.
