Temple, Tx ( FOX 44 ) – A Temple couple has been arrested after their children were found to be malnourished and one child was kept locked in his room.

The mother of the children, identified as 28-year-old Alicia Sophia Aguillon and their stepfather identified as 32-year-old William Cody Brown were both booked into the Bell County Jail Wednesday on charges of injury to a child.

An arrest affidavit stated the investigation began in late August when a Temple police officer was called to McClane Children's Hospital in reference to a possible child neglect case. The affidavit stated that a social worker told the officer that an eight year old boy had been brought to the hospital for a routine appointment for cystic fibrosis by his mother and stepfather and had been noted to have lost about 17-percent of his body weight in three months. The doctor stated that the weight loss was not caused by the cystic fibrosis.

The affidavit stated the doctor asked the boy if he got to eat when he was hungry and he said "no", that he only got to eat " sometimes" and asked the doctor for a snack. The affidavit stated that his mother was irritated that he was given a snack. She told the doctor the child had been sneaking out and had been found in dumpsters.

The affidavit stated that while at the hospital a CPS investigator interviewed the boy who said there was a camera in his room and a lock on his door to keep him from sneaking out to find food. The affidavit stated he had gotten in trouble once for going to a dumpster trying to find food.

The affidavit state that two other children, aged six and three were interviewed and showed signs of malnutrition. The children were admitted to the hospital.

The affidavit said school personnel were told not to overfeed the older children because they had a "medical condition" and that they had "developmental delays" that caused them to always ask for more food. The affidavit stated that investigators checked the children's medical records and conferred with medical providers and learned that no such medical condition existed.

The affidavit stated that investigators found an abundance of food in the family's pantry, refrigerator and freezer.

Following an investigation, officers sought and obtained arrest warrants for the couple and they were taken into custody.
