Tense convo? Rumors fly after video shows Obama and Biden talking at memorial service

People on social media seem to have plenty of theories about what President Joe Biden and former President Barack Obama were talking about ahead of .

Video shows the two men standing in the front row ofthe Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle on Wednesday as guests make their way into the church for the services.

As an organ plays, Biden and Obama engage in a conversation for at least two minutes, both men leaning over and whispering to one another.

At one point, Obama appears to turn away, but Biden redirects Obama's attention back to him. They stop chatting as the mass begins, with many speculating what they were discussing.

Citing "a professional lip reader," The claimed Biden told Obama "she's not as strong as me," while Obama replied, "That's true." Obama reportedly added, "We have time."

The "she" Biden was referring to wasn't exactly clear, but The Post seemed confident he was talking about Vice President Kamala Harris, who is facing off against former President Donald Trump in the upcoming 2024 presidential election on Nov. 5.

According to The Post, the dialogue was translated for the media outlet by Jeremy Freeman, "a London-based forensic lip reader who was born deaf and for 16 years has served as a University College London-certified expert witness for litigants, the police and journalists."

As for the general public, they have their own ideas, with some suggesting there's tension between Biden and Obama.

"Obama and the other Dems are probably angry that Biden hung on as long as he did, not giving them time to find an alternative to Kamala," one person wrote on X in response to a photo about The New York Post's . "Obama is an extremely shrewd political operator - he knows how weak Kamala is. The only reason this is even a potential race is because she's running against Trump, who is, to put it mildly, immensely disliked."

Others said it makes the Democratic Party look "desperate," while some criticized Biden's appearance.

"I'm surprised anyone can read Biden's surgically disfigured face but I'm not surprised his ego is still off the hook."

Several people said the conversation, no matter what is was about, could have waited until after the service.

"They are more worried about politics even at a funeral," one person wrote.

During the service, Biden, 81, eulogized Ethel Kennedy, who . She was 96 years old.

While members of the Kennedy family gathered earlier this week to attend her private funeral, Biden on Wednesday hailed the wife of the late Sen. Robert F. Kennedy as "a hero in her own right." He said she was "full of character, full of integrity and empathy."

"We're a better nation and a better world because of Ethel Kennedy," Biden said.

Obama and former President Bill Clinton also spoke, with each reflecting on Ethel Kennedy's humor and warmth, her work championing social causes and her unflappable resolve in the wake of tragedy.

She was by Robert F. Kennedy's side when he was fatally shot in the kitchen of the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles just after winning California's Democratic presidential primary. Her brother-in-law, former President John F. Kennedy, had been assassinated in Dallas less than five years earlier.

Obama said her life was marked by more tragedy and heartbreak than most could bear.

"She would have been forgiven, I think if, at any point she had stepped away from public life or allowed bitterness to fester after all she and her family had been through," Obama said. "But that is not what Ethel did because that is not who she was."
