The Department of Elections Releases Preliminary Results Report #5 and Update on the Number of Ballots Left to Count for the November 5, 2024, Consolidated General Election

For Immediate Release SAN FRANCISCO, Thursday, November 7, 2024 – Today, the Department of Elections issued the fifth preliminary election results reports of votes cast in the November 5, 2024, Consolidated General Election.

Today's preliminary results report includes 24,765 vote-by-mail ballots counted since the last results report issued on Election Night.

Today's preliminary results report includes votes from approximately 96,660 ballot cards since the November 2024 election ballot is comprised of four cards.

The Department must still process and count approximately 143,000 ballots. This estimate includes:

Vote-by-mail ballots: 123,000 Provisional ballots (cast at polling places and the City Hall Voting Center): 20,000

Today's estimate of vote-by-mail ballots to still count includes approximately 10,000 vote-by-mail ballots the Department received from the United States Postal Service on Wednesday, November 6, and which are postmarked on or before Election Day.

Department personnel will process and count ballots until 10 p.m. tonight. On Friday, November 8, ballot processing will occur from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Ballot processing is open to public observation in-person and via livestream at sfelections.org/observe .

The Department will next release preliminary results reports and an estimate of the number of remaining ballots, which will be posted at www.sfelections.gov/results on Friday, November 8, 4 p.m.

When the Department issues results reports, Director John Arntz will be available to respond to questions from members of the public and the media outside of Room 48 in City Hall.
