The supermoon has arrived! Stunning photos show the Hunter's Moon in London as rare sight dazzles star gazers across the UK

The largest supermoon of the year has dazzled stargazers from London and beyond as stunning photos display the yellowish spectacle slotted nicely between city buildings.

Also known as the Hunter's moon, the October full moon is the third supermoon of 2024.

Supermoons appear roughly 30 per cent brighter and 15 per cent bigger than a full moon at it's farthest point from Earth.

At a distance of just 221,937 miles (357,173 km), the Hunter's Moon is the closest supermoon to Earth this year.

Fortunately for Brits, the Met Office had predicted good weather for stargazing across much of the country and clear skies this evening meant that many were not disappointed.

Photos show the captivating moon above the capital's skyline - with office workers in surrounding buildings even visible in some of the shots.

London was of course not the only place graced by the presence of the supermoon - one amazing photo shows the moon tower over Mow Cop castle in Cheshire.

And in Somerset, Glastonbury, the full Hunter's Supermoon can be seen in all its glory behind St Michael's Tower on Glastonbury Tor.

In other parts of the world, the supermoon was perhaps just as much a sight to behold - countries like Turkey, India and North America produced some spectacular scenes.

In one picture, the moon in Washington DC by the Martin Luther King Jr. memorial appears a burning orange-like colour in the horizon.

The moon will stay full for three days so you will be able to try again until the morning of October 19 - if you missed it this evening.

But if you do happen to miss the Hunter's Moon altogether there is no reason to worry as there is still one more supermoon to come.

The Hunter's Moon is the third of four supermoons in 2024, with the next forecast for November 15, being the full Beaver Moon.
