Thief swipes gun magazine, handcuff key from Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony’s car
A Fort Lauderdale man is facing burglary charges, accused of breaking into Broward Sheriff Gregory Tony's parked vehicle and swiping firearm magazines, a handcuff key and several personal items, a sheriff's spokesman said Tuesday.
The break-in took place about 2:40 Sunday morning and was discovered later. Details about the incident, including the exact location and whether the vehicle was properly locked, were not released. Locations are typically withheld from some public crime reports to protect the privacy of victims who work for law enforcement.
The incident took place in Fort Lauderdale, and the handcuff key was recovered. No weapons were taken, said Sheriff's Office spokesman Carey Codd.
Fort Lauderdale police arrested Andre Demetric Perry, 42, on Sunday and charged him with two counts of burglary and one count of grand theft, among other charges. He is being held in the Broward main jail in lieu of a $32,500 bond.
According to court records, Perry goes by several aliases, including John Anthony Hawkins and Anthony Lorenzo Perry.
