This downtown Milwaukee bridge will be closed for construction until fall 2025
Downtown commuters will be dodging construction on the Cherry Street bridge for quite a while.
A joint project between Milwaukee and the state Department of Transportation to rehabilitate the bridge is underway and scheduled to conclude in fall 2025.
The work, which includes installing solid surfaces across the bridge deck and restoring its operation capacity, began midsummer, according to a project outline .
The bridge will be closed to through traffic for the duration of the project.
There are two possible detours around the bridge. One for motorists and pedestrians, which uses North King Drive to East Knapp Street and North Water Street. The other detour, for bicyclists, uses North King Drive, East Juneau Avenue and North Water Street.
