PACHOLL Thomas Joseph, Age 97, of St Paul, Died August 17, 2024, in Menahga, MN surrounded by family. He was born on February 10, 1927 in St. Paul, MN. He is preceded in death by his parents Otto and Louise, brothers Eugene and John, and his wives Muriel Suek and Rita Gillach Otte. Tom grew up on the west side of St. Paul where he spent most of his life. He graduated Cretin HS, College of St. Thomas, and the University of MN. After 1 year in college, he enlisted in the US Navy and served 2 years. He then returned to finish his studies at St. Thomas. As Co-captain of the football team, he was a proud participant in the Cigar Bowl, held on January 1, 1949, in Tampa, FL. He cherished and reflected on that positive experience over the years and became a lifelong supporter of UST and Tommie football. Tom spent his career as an educator and administrator in the St. Paul public school system. He married Muriel Suek in 1950 and is survived by their children, Tom (Kate) Pacholl, Barb (Joe) Welle, Peg (Mike) Klug, Mary (Brad) Hanson. Grandchildren, Natalie (David Hughes) Pacholl, Margot Pacholl, Robert Rasmussen, Nicholas (Whitney) Rasmussen, Justin (Jessica) Klug, Sarah (Alex) Manzano, Tori Klug, Kristina Welle, Tom (Lauren) Welle, and 6 great-grandchildren. After Muriel passed away, Tom married Rita Gillach Otte whom he had known several years through his bible study club. He is survived by his bonus children, Mary Jane (Roy (d)) Riedlinger, John F. (Jeanine) Otte, Carol (John) Hopkins, Margaret Otte, J. Joseph (Anne Parks) Otte. Bonus grandchildren, John Riedlinger, Katharine Riedlinger (Jared Stevenson), Elizabeth Riedlinger (Shawn Scott), John Paul Otte, Julia (Riley) Forcelle, James Otte, Kelsey Hopkins, Tim (Nicole Ciulla) Hopkins, Timothy (Molly Budke) Otte, Joseph Otte, Katie Otte, and 7 bonus great-grandchildren. Tom was a kind, generous, humble man with a great sense of humor. He enjoyed hearing people's funny stories and had many of his own related to his life experiences. He was an avid reader and loved to travel – even better if both were related to history or historical events. He loved to dance and enjoyed listening and dancing to music of his era. Nothing rattled Tom. His mantra was "Oh well, what the heck" to any bump in the road. The thing Tom enjoyed most of all was spending time at his cabin in Park Rapids, MN, where he loved hosting family and friends and could enjoy the peace and serenity that nature provided. Tom lived his faith and loved going to church. He often stated that he had lived a wonderful life, and he looked forward to entering the kingdom of God. Special thanks to Tom's caregivers: Sarah Hernandez, who cared for Tom in his Condo the past year, Hospice staff of HealthPartners St. Paul, and CHI St. Joseph's Health of Park Rapids, and the wonderful care team at Green Pine Acres of Menahga, MN, all of whom made Tom's final days peaceful and comfortable. A funeral Mass will be held on October 10, 2024 at 11am with visitation beginning at 10am at St. Stanislaus Church (398 W. Superior St., St. Paul, MN). A luncheon will follow. 2pm burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. After the burial, an Irish Wake will be held at Shamrock's W. 7th, St. Paul. Memorials preferred to donor's choice.{/p/span}Published in: St. Paul Pioneer Press from October 6, 2024 to October 8, 2024 Honor with Flowers
