Three arrested, two wanted in fatal Terrebonne Parish hit-and-run crash

TERREBONNE PARISH, La. ( WGNO ) — A crash on a Terrebonne Parish highway left a woman dead and multiple arrested with others wanted by law enforcement.

According to Louisiana State Police Troop C, around 12 a.m. on Sept. 29, they were called to investigate a fatal hit-and-run crash on Louisiana Highway 182 near Oak Forest Drive.

An investigation revealed a Jeep Patriot was headed west on the highway at the same time as a Ford Focus.

Troopers said, for unknown reasons, the Jeep crossed into the Ford's path striking its passenger side. The Ford's passenger, 39-year-old Amanda Courteaux, was partially ejected and died on the scene.

Reportedly, Courteaux was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

They add that the Ford driver, who was a juvenile, was also not wearing a seatbelt and suffered moderate injuries.

Further investigation revealed the Jeep's driver, identified as 33-year-old Elmer "Miguel Albino-Bou" Adan GaleasCanizales of Honduras, reportedly got out of the Jeep, got into a separate vehicle and left the area.

After the crash, troopers said Elmer Galeas-Canizales was allegedly helped by 35-year-old Miguel GaleasCanizales, 35-year-old Elvin "Giovanni" Yovani Galeas-Canizales, 42-year-old Doneyda Galeas-Canizales, and 21-year-old Emerson Parada-Amaya.

Arrest made in Seabrook neighborhood homicide

Law officials said the group either "knowingly" gave them false information or tried to help him escape to Dallas.

With the help of the Houma Field Office, Homeland Security Investigations – Houma, U.S. Marshals Service, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office and the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office, on Oct. 16, Doneyda, Emerson, and Miguel Galeas-Canizales were arrested for accessory to vehicular homicide.

Police are currently searching for Elmer and Elvin Galeas-Canizales, who they believed escaped to Houston or Dallas. Arrest warrants have been issued.

Elmer Galeas-Canizales will face charges of vehicular homicide, vehicular negligent injury and felony hit-and-run resulting in death. Elvin Galeas-Canizales will face a charge of accessory to vehicular homicide.
