WICHITA FALLS, Texas (KAUZ) - On Election Day, Throckmorton residents passed a proposition that ended the county's status as one of just four alcohol-free county's in the state of Texas.

After four previous times on the ballot, the fifth time proved to be the charm.

The Mayor of Throckmorton, William Carroll, expressed his satisfaction that the prop passed and laid out how this helps the town financially.

"Being able to sell the beer and wine in town, in our stores and possibly even someone opening up another store to be able to sell the product. It's going to amount to a large amount of sales tax and all the sales tax that we get goes directly towards the lowering of property tax for any new businesses that are put in. They will increase the valuation of our city," Mayor Carroll said.

John Bundy, a resident of Throckmorton, says regardless if people voted for or against the prop they will see the positive results of it passing.

"I feel very positive. I actually work here for the city and looking at all the tax revenue that we will receive i think it will be very beneficial. Whether people voted yes or no, I think they'll see a difference [in] the outcome of the town. I think it will be very good for us," Bundy said.
