TikTok ice cream seller needed licence to trade

A self-styled "King of Deserts" who has more than 260,000 followers on TikTok did not have a licence to trade in Worcester, the city council has said.

According to Mr Tee's social media accounts, he was in the city on 15 September and the local authority said it was investigating.

Adam Scott, who sits on its licensing committee, said: "We appreciate street vendors can bring life and vitality to streets, but we have to bring some control and licensing is our way of doing that."

The Local Democracy Reporting Service has contacted Mr Tee for comment.

The social media star travels the country selling his ice cream, announcing his arrival a few hours in advance.

There were queues in the city's Croft Road car park last week when his van paid a visit.

Mr Scott said: "The council maintains a rigid but fair policy on the licensing of street vendors and that includes ice cream vans."

Another city councillor, Richard Udall, said on Facebook the situation was "extremely unfair and wrong" on all those traders "who do pay money to gain a licence".

He warned the council would "enforce the law, for public and consumer protection".
