This is regarding the comment in Monday’s SAYSO about the WWF and how it’s
immoral and violent and makes your kids have a bad example. Well, I think it’s
the job of the parents in the area to monitor what your kids are watching, and
if they don’t approve of it, then turn it off.

Congratulations to the person who called in The Times Leader about the
special sections they have for various regions in their service area. I think
The Times Leader should take a look at what’s going on. Are we really a region
or are we the Wyoming Valley or are we the Back Mountain or Nanticoke or West
Side or Mountaintop?
Editor’s note: We’ve received several calls about this matter and have
established a group to discuss ideas for the future. Any readers want to join,
call Dotty Martin (831-7378) or Renita Fennick (829-7246). We’ll be convening
after the holidays.

I would like to comment on the article that PennDOT finally found out in
Duryea that it was time to put up a light. That was not PennDOT that did that.
Mayor Rostkowski got all the paperwork and handed it over to the council in
the last several weeks for them to get that light. It was a $60,000 grant and
it was promoted by Mayor Rostkowski.

Let me get this straight. You pay some $40 for a ticket into the arena, you
pay $4 to park, they open the parking lot four hours early and expect you to
get there real early to avoid the traffic jam and then they don’t open the
doors until 7 o’clock. Do they really think that for these kind of prices
people are going to stand there for three hours in 30-degree weather?

I would like to have some readers’ opinions. A 20-year-old boy is going out
with a 41- or 42-year-old woman. She is divorced with three kids in their
teens. He’s my son. He’s paying her bills because she can’t afford to pay
them. He’s buying her everything, for her and her children, and yet, she still
sees her husband, which my son knows about. He takes her shopping and pays her
bills, yet he contributes nothing to our household, knowing we’re on a limited
budget. We know she plays in a band. What do people think about this boy?

This would really help SAYSO and avoid you judging who’s right and who’s
wrong. You should put a number in SAYSO so if you have a complaint, problem,
or whatever and you want to talk to somebody and it will be in
confidentiality.

Editor’s note: Allison Walzer’s phone number (829-7162) is in the paper
every day and any reader is free to call the newsroom at 829-7242 and speak
without identifying him or herself (although a name is always nice).

Presidential candidate Al Gore speaks of the wonderful economy. No one
faults him for this because we realize it is better than it has been in a long
time. He goes on to say all he has done and we come to find out that it is a
lie. He lies through his teeth just like any other politician. What I can’t
understand about him is that he keeps Bill Clinton locked in a closet. He
seems to be skirting this issue, which may be good politics.

I’m calling about your classified ads with the prayers in them. They are
very misprinted. They’re not spaced right; they’re leaving out words.

Editor’s note: Please call Lisa Pretko (829-7201) in our classified
department. She would like to help but is not sure which ads you are
describing.

I read in the paper where the attorney general is going to check into the
practices of the lottery and how it is being spent. Is it going to be checked
on or not. Let me give you an example about my friend, who purchased 35
lottery tickets. Out of these 35 tickets he won $1. Where is all this money
going?

I was reading in SAYSO about the leash law. There is a Rottweiler on Old
Ashley Road at the Catholic War Veterans property. It’s unleashed every day. A
couple of times it has gone after people and they run screaming. That’s pretty
scary. Please do something about it.

Editor’s note: Have you contacted the police?

Philadelphia is known to be one of the unhealthy cities in the U.S.
Overweight is up in that city. They should have taken the poll here in Luzerne
County.

I would like to voice my opinion on what pet shops should sell. Cats, dogs,
birds, fish are OK, but rodents, reptiles should not be caged and should
remain in their own environment. I think that they should do something to stop
them from profiting on these creatures.

Is President Clinton aware that three service men were killed in Kuwait and
that seven more are missing. And what honor is he going to give them. Is he
going to attend their funeral?

Could you give me a breakdown on the Neil Diamond concert? What his take
would be, what he pays the band, production, what rent is paid the arena, etc.

Editor’s note: We’re working on it.

Congratulations, Van Rose, your surgery was successful. Not everyone’s is.

Michael Lizzo’s letter to the editor concerning the out-of-control hospital
bills was right on the money. Do you think any of these corporations care
about you and how you pay your medical bills? Hospitals are in the money
business, not the care business. 4

In regard to the politician who ditched his pony tail to improve his image.
Maybe the children around here should take note when they go for a job with
different color hair and earrings sticking out of everywhere.

I attended the second evening of Neil Diamond concert and I was
disappointed that The Times Leader didn’t do any coverage on it. An event of
this size!

I’m calling about the situation with the hockey games. I took my children
to the arena and find with all the violence, blood dripping from their nose,
it is no place to take your family. It’s an absolute disgrace. Kevin Blaum
seems to be a decent guy. I can’t believe he got suckered into this arena.

About the caller who called in about the songs in the Catholic Church. So
many things that have changed and some that don’t seem important right now and
more to come. Years ago our church was strict – 99.9 people cared. They liked
the fact. The world has changed. We use to get a bulletin and knew what was
going on. Our church is getting smaller and smaller. Our religion is on its
way out. Someone will have to pay. I say it’s our bishop, for one.

I’m calling today on the SAYSO caller who commented on Steve Corbett column
on the homeless people at Thanksgiving and exposure to the media. I agree with
Mr. Corbett. Why don’t the media go to some expensive restaurant where the
businessmen with their expensive suits are enjoying lunch at taxpayers
expense?

I enjoyed your article on the barbershop quartet. However, there was no
phone number in the article. I was trying to get a barbershop quartet to sing
at an affair that I’m sponsoring and there’s nothing in the Yellow Pages. If
anyone could help I’d appreciate it.

Editor’s note: We did have a phone number listed in the story, but you must
have missed it. For information on the barbershop quartet, call Bill
Zdancewicz, public relations director for the local chapter, 287-2476.

The party wrote in about running for president. Most of the things they
said, I’d vote for them. Freeze immigration for five years, eliminate the
space program, spending millions that didn’t accomplish anything. I would add
something that the president or anyone couldn’t touch Social Security. I would
limit the welfare to unwed mothers and limit it to one child. Even to the ones
that are married, they need help once in a while, but limit that, too. Some
people have more children to get more welfare.
