COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - As Colorado's winter storm continued to move through the state, the Colorado Department of Agriculture gave a reminder about livestock care during the wintertime. Officials said that winter storms can be stressful for livestock living outdoors. The wind chills and extended cold weather can be potentially dangerous for livestock if the correct precautions are not taken. Officials say at temperatures under 18 degrees, livestock begins to stress, and they require more feed than normal to maintain a healthy body temperature. "Dehydration can be a great hazard during winter storms," the Colorado Department of Agriculture said. "Exposure to prolonged cold and wind chills can increase the risk for cold-related illnesses." Officials also shared some tips about equine care:Provide warm water (45° to 65° F) for more information.
