TEXARKANA, Texas (KSLA) —- What started in a classroom at Morris Elementary School in Texarkana, Texas, is making its way into space.

A group of Texarkana Independent School District (TISD) students are spending a few days at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. They designed a microgravity experiment that was scheduled to be launched and sent to the International Space Center later Monday night (Nov. 4).

"Will normal strength concrete form in microgravity?" asked Isaac Steel, a TISD student.

"I feel like it is an accomplishment, how like our project is going into space and how it might improve mankind ... something like that," said Cooper Wood, another TISD student.

This experiment was created by Steel, Wood, Lizzy LaGrone and Lynnley Galloway. The project is part of the Student Spaceflight Experiments program. Officials said TISD is one of just 37 communities in three countries participating in this space program.

"I know the school and everyone is really proud of them. I'm proud of them, Mr. Anderson is proud of them, so we are real excited to have this opportunity," said Nicole Ayers, of TISD.

The live launch was scheduled for Monday at 8:29 p.m. CST. You can watch the event live here.

"It was so hard to make the proposal; but when we did make it, it felt more real," LaGrone said.

"Once it comes back to Earth, we hope that the growth is just strong as it is here," Galloway said.
