T.J. Holmes has admitted there was a 'lots of vomiting' when he ran the New York City Marathon on Sunday alongside his girlfriend, Amy Robach .

Holmes, 47, and Robach, 51, were pictured running alongside one another and completed the epic 26.2 mile journey across all five boroughs in four hours, 14 minutes and 39 seconds.

However, it seems it wasn't all smooth sailing as Holmes took to Instagram on Monday morning and posted a photo of him and his former Good Morning America cohost looking absolutely exhausted, Robach with her head in her hands.

'How we got from the starting line to this... on a marathon day that included a near repeat disaster, tons of Twizzlers, iPhone chafing, hanging with Gov. Hochul, and vomiting. Lots and lots of [vomiting emoji],' Holmes captioned the photo.

Robach - who was fired from ABC along with her boyfriend last year after their affair was exposed by DailyMail.com - also took to Instagram and shared some more joyous photos, including her and Holmes clutching their medals.

She wrote alongside the snaps: 'We finished! First 20 were glorious - last 6 - the toughest I've had, ever.

'It was a gorgeous day with so many highs and a few lows - a huge thank you to the city of New York for pulling off another incredible day, arguably the best day of the year for the city: a day of community and unity and joy.'

It comes less than one month after Holmes ended up in an ambulance after suffering an injury in the Chicago Marathon alongside Robach.

The former morning show host took to Instagram on October 14 to post photos and video of himself in the back of an ambulance during the long-distance running event.

Another one of the snaps saw legs and feet while he was strapped to the gurney.

There was also a video which seemed to be taken by Robach showing off his leg and panning to Holmes looking rather worried.

He captioned the post: 'So, this happened. Full story to come .... [tearing up emoji] #DNF #chicagomarathon.'

Holmes had previously been open about his health struggles while training for the marathon as he said on the September 30 episode of their podcast Amy & T.J.: 'One of the two of us might not be running it.

'And that one was almost in tears this morning after going on what was supposed to be an eight-mile run and I only made it 1.6 miles.'

Robach revealed at the time that her partner had been struggling with his Achilles tendon as she said: 'I have to say, you have been so on top of it.

'Every day you're icing, you're heating. You've gone to a foot specialist who's done some laser heat therapy. You've done everything you can. You're on a steady dose of Aleve and Advil and it hasn't gotten better.'

Last month he revealed that he had been suffering from the pain for two months as he described it at the time as 'inflammation on the back of my heel.'

Robach added that Holmes had been contemplating whether or not to run the race out of fear of a severe injury.
