Marybeth J. Carpenter
Cogan Station, Pa. — Marybeth J. Carpenter, 70, of Cogan Station, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024 at her home.
Born July 2, 1954 in Williamsport, she was a daughter of the late Forrest and Betty (Beach) Johnston. She and her husband James shared a wonderful life together.
Marybeth graduated from Williamsport Area High School in 1972, as well as Williamsport Community College in 1974 with an associate's degree in liberal arts. She was employed at Williamsport Wirerope Works until she retired in 2020. Marybeth also worked at John Powell Chevrolet and Myler Church Builders for several years. She was an active member and former board member of the Blooming Grove Historical Society & Cemetery Inc.
Marybeth enjoyed cross-stitching and baking, as well as spending time with her family. With Marybeth serving drinks and her lifelong friend, Donna Carducci dazzling on the dance floor. They were a dynamic duo at Bourbon Street during the disco era. Marybeth spent so much time there, her dad threatened to have her mail forwarded to Bourbon St.
Marybeth is survived by her husband, James Carpenter, Jr., of Cogan Station; her sisters, Jean McGavin, of Tunkhannock, Jill (David) Kilburn, of Cogan Station; brother, Forrest "Pike" (Diann) Johnston, of Trout Run; along with three nieces and five nephews.
In addition to her parents, Marybeth was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Raymond McGavin.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Blooming Grove Historical Society at 397 Dunkard Church Road, Cogan Station PA, 17728.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family. The family will hold a celebration of life at a later date.
