T.J. Maxx Throws A Fashionable Grand Opening At Yorktown Green As part of the celebration, T.J. Maxx presented a $10,000 donation to My Brother Vinny, a Yorktown-based charity that helps veterans.YORKTOWN, NY — There's a new option for discount fashion and home goods in Northern Westchester, just in time for the start of the holiday shopping season.
A new T.J. Maxx discount department store chain celebrated its newest store on Thursday at the Yorktown Green Shopping Center.
The location occupies part of the space where Kmart used to be, which has been undergoing a major revival in recent years. Other new businesses like Five Below, Michaels, and a pickleball sports center are also set to open soon at the former Kmart's footprint at 335 Downing Drive, according to the town.
"Yorktown is thriving, and people are making big investments," Supervisor Ed Lachterman said. "This brings jobs to our residents, and thanks to the mall's owner — Oster Properties — for investing in our community."
The revival at the shopping center began in 2022 when Uncle Giuseppe's Marketplace moved into a former Food Emporium space that was vacant for a decade.
"These businesses are going to bring more people into our community to eat at our local restaurants and shop at our local stores," Councilman Sergio Esposito said.
As part of the grand opening celebration, T.J. Maxx presented a $10,000 donation to My Brother Vinny, a Yorktown-based charity that provides furniture and housewares to formerly homeless veterans, outreach groups, shelters and families throughout the Hudson Valley. The charity says it has furnished more than 2,000 homes for veterans free of charge.
"We are the only charity in New York that has furnished homes for homeless veterans," Paula Miritello of My Brother Vinny said. "We do not get enough support to cover the need, so this came at a perfect time."
T.J. Maxx, which was founded in Framingham, Massachusetts in 1976, currently has over 1000 stores in the United States. The parent company TJX Companies also operates Marshalls, HomeGoods, HomeSense, and Sierra, along with Winners in Canada, and TK Maxx in Australia and Europe.
Other Westchester County T.J. Maxx locations include Mount Kisco, Hartsdale, Yonkers and Mount Vernon.
