TN Most Wanted fugitive found and taken into custody

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) said that a fugitive wanted out of Maury County for homicide has been found and taken into custody.

Michael Van Dobbs was taken into custody on Friday, according to a social media post from the TBI. He was accused of killing 37-year-old Harold "BJ" Grisham III.

Based on documents from the Maury County Sheriff's Department, Dobbs' criminal history there started in 2002. Records show a total of 44 charges against Dobbs in the span of 21 years, including theft, burglary, drug-related offenses, child endangerment, and assault.

The Williamson County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post that he was taken into custody around 7 p.m. near the Garrison Creek Trail Head and the Natchez Trace Scenic Trail.

"A tip from an alert citizen who recognized Dobbs in the area and immediately notified law enforcement enabled deputies to locate and apprehend Dobbs without incident," the post added.

He had been considered armed and dangerous and was placed on Tennessee's Most Wanted list of fugitives.
