TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – 27 News has received a significant update to multiple construction projects on U.S. 75 in the Topeka area Wednesday.

Kate Craft with the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) told 27 News the work could take longer to complete. Three separate bridge repair projects are currently underway in both the north and southbound lanes.

KDOT says these projects will not be fully completed until 2025. Craft said there's a significant amount of patching work left to do on bridge decks, which is leading to more work than was originally anticipated.

The first project is north of the Kansas River and includes 12 bridges in both directions along U.S. 75. It is not slated to be completed until next spring, weather permitting.

The second and third projects are over the Kansas River and the flyover to I-70 and Gage Boulevard. KDOT says those are expected to be done by late December, also weather permitting.

Craft told us there will be a winter shutdown period where traffic control will be removed, which is expected to be done in December of next month. This means that all lanes will be open, and crews will resume work in 2025.
