Treaver P. Owen
Treaver P Owen, born on February 18, 1931, in Barnesville, Alabama, passed peacefully on November 2, 2024, at the age of 93. He was the beloved son of Taft Owen and Amanda Burrow, and the cherished older brother to Bobby Owen, Ernest Owen, Martha Emerson, and Peggy Sue Cooper. Known for his unwavering faith and steadfast spirit, he was a man who lived by example, showing love, humility, and strength to all who knew him.
Growing up on a farm as the eldest of five siblings, Treaver developed a deep sense of responsibility and integrity early in life. Though life brought challenges, including the loss of his younger brother Bobby at just 16, he remained rooted in kindness and always chose to do what was right. In the 1950s, he ventured into business in Hamilton, Alabama, where he ran a full-service gas station, always greeting neighbors with a warm smile and a helping hand.
After welcoming his two eldest children, Phillip and MeLinda, he moved his family from Alabama to Denton, Texas, in the early 1960s. In 1969, this is where he had his youngest daughter, Jacqueline.
He married his wife Rhonda in October 1975, beginning a remarkable 49-year union based on love, mutual respect, and a commitment to family.
Treaver worked tirelessly to provide for his family, taking on two jobs with dignity and dedication. He served as a driver for his uncle's and Denton's first taxi company, while also working at the State School, where his calm and friendly presence earned him the affectionate nickname "Mr. Clean." Ultimately, he left the taxi company and devoted himself fully to the school, retiring in 1991 after many years of caring for the community. Following retirement, he continued his service by working with his dear friend Derv at the local funeral home, a role that exemplified his care for others in times of need. In the late 1990s, he and Rhonda graciously welcomed two of their granddaughters, Amber and Haley, into their home, showing once again the boundless love he had for family.
A man of simple joys, Treaver loved playing dominoes and taught anyone willing to learn. He and Rhonda made a tradition of playing nightly games over dinner, filling countless notebooks with their scores. His love for the outdoors was evident in his well-tended garden, where he grew cucumbers, tomatoes, squash, corn, okra, figs, and more, sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends.
Above all, he was a caring and kindhearted man with a steadfast moral compass. Guided by his faith, which was strengthened through the example of his son Phillip, he committed his life to Christ at Midway Baptist Church and could be found there every Sunday morning. His faith was the foundation of his life, directing him to lead by example, love unconditionally, and give selflessly.
With his passing, he was the last of his generation, joining his beloved siblings and eldest daughter, MeLinda Mitchell, in heaven. He leaves behind his wife Rhonda Owen; his children, Phillip Owen, and Jacqueline Owen; grandchildren Stephanie Davis, Christopher Owen, Wesley Mitchell, Jayson Owen, Amber Henderson, Haley Dawson, Lynzee Ceballos, Kyler Dawson, Aimry Dawson; and 19 great-grandchildren. His family is his legacy, and he will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him. In his 93 years, Treaver showed us the meaning of a life well-lived: one guided by faith, marked by love, and dedicated to family. Though he may no longer walk beside us, Treaver's spirit lives on. It shines in the laughter of his great-grandchildren, echoes in the stories we share around the table, and guides us in the example of love and integrity he set every day of his life.
Funeral services will be held Friday November 8, at 10:00 a.m. at Mulkey-Bowles-Montgomery Funeral Home, 705 N. Locust Street Denton, TX, with burial to follow in the Medlin Cemetery in Trophy Club, TX. A visitation will be on Thursday evening from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
