Trevor Lawrence Out for Jaguars vs. Lions with Shoulder Injury; Mac Jones Will Start
V.Davis4 hr ago
Mitchell Leff/ Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence is going to miss his second straight game due to a shoulder injury. Head coach Doug Pederson announced on Wednesday that Mac Jones will start again this week against the Detroit Lions. Lawrence has been largely durable throughout his career since the Jaguars selected him with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2021 draft and missed just one game in his first three seasons. However, he suffered a shoulder injury ahead of Jacksonville's Week 10 game against the Minnesota Vikings. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported on Nov. 10 that it was a "significant AC joint sprain" he suffered during the team's Week 9 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. "Surgery is possible for Lawrence, sources say, though the current plan is for rest and rehab," Rapoport wrote. "While the team has called him day to day, week to week is probably a more accurate description. Regardless of whether Lawrence plays moving forward, the injury is expected to limit him for the next several weeks." It was another blow for a Jaguars team that started 2-7 with Lawrence and didn't seem to be a playoff threat at all in the AFC. Lawrence put up solid numbers before the injury and completed 61.3 percent of his passes for 2,004 yards, 11 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also threw for more than 4,000 yards in each of the previous two seasons. Jacksonville traded for Jones as a backup quarterback ahead of the 2024 season and will continue to rely on him while the starter is sidelined. He went 14-of-22 for 111 yards with two interceptions in Sunday's 12-7 loss to the Vikings. The No. 15 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft failed to live up to expectations with the New England Patriots, but he is at least an experienced option who entered the 2024 campaign with 42 career starts.
