WACO / SALADO, Texas ( FOX 44 ) – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and its contractor will start a project to add additional truck parking spaces at both the northbound and southbound Interstate 35 Salado Safety Rest Areas.

The project starts Friday, and will add 52 trucking parking spaces to the northbound rest area and 51 to the southbound rest area, totaling 81 and 80 truck parking spots. This is a $12.1 million project being undertaken by Texas Materials Group, Inc., and is scheduled to complete late next year. There will be minimal disruption to rest area operations throughout the project.

According to TxDOT, Texas Safety Rest Areas are strategically located along the State's highway network to combat driver fatigue and promote road safety, ensuring travelers reach their destinations safely. The Waco District includes four of these critical rest areas, two in Salado and two in Hill County, all situated along I-35.
