Six Tucson-area credit unions have joined forces to launch a $30 million program designed to help individuals and families transition from renting to owning their first home.

Pima Federal, Tucson Federal, Vantage West, Hughes Federal, Pyramid Federal and Tucson Old Pueblo Federal credit unions are partnering with the GoWest Foundation to offer zero down payment assistance.

Three credit unions — Pima, Tucson and Vantage West — will provide mortgage loans. While Hughes, Pyramid and Tucson Old Pueblo will provide referrals for the program.

Loan applications opened Oct. 15.

The credit unions will also offer workshops and resources to help buyers understand the responsibilities of home ownership, budgeting and maintaining a healthy financial profile.

The grant will help launch Southern Arizona Land Trust's Tenant Rental Assistance Program.

The program, which is underway now, will run through August 2025. It assists households at or below 80% average median income who are at risk of housing instability. Priority is given to adults ages 60 and up, families with children, people with disabilities and veterans.

SALT is one of the largest providers of affordable single family rental homes in Pima County. The entirety of the grant award will be allocated to existing SALT tenant households.
