NORWICH, Conn. (WTNH) — Two adults and a child were seriously injured after their vehicle went off the road and collided with trees yesterday evening in the Taftville section of Norwich.

Friday at 6:18 p.m., the Taftville Fire Company #2 arrived at Taftville-Occum Rd. for a single-vehicle crash with three occupants; one of whom was a child.

Investigation determined the vehicle was approaching a reverse curve, commonly known as an S-curve, when it went off the road and collided with two 20-foot trees — causing them to fall.

The vehicle then spun and collided with a third tree. Two occupants were able to escape the car, but one remained trapped.

Due to the vehicle's heavy damage, firefighters worked for almost 20 minutes to extricate the trapped individual. Rescue ropes, the hydraulic tool known as the "Jaws of Life," and a few other extrication tools were used in the process to free the occupant.

All three victims were sent to the hospital for life-threatening injuries with one being transported by LifeStar helicopter.

The Norwich Police Department continues to investigate this crash. Check back with News 8 for updates on the victims' conditions.
