Two arrested after barricading themselves in a Martinsville home
Two people have been arrested on outstanding charges after barricading themselves in a Martinsville residence and refusing to come out.
On Wednesday, Henry County Sheriff's deputies arrived at 394 Woodhaven Road in Martinsville to arrest Samuel Dewey Franklin Jr., 37, on outstanding warrants.
Franklin refused to come out of the home and deputies determined a second wanted person, April Michelle Cannoy, 44, of Bassett, was also inside and refused to exit the residence.
After a period of negotiation, Cannoy complied and was taken into custody without incident.
A prolonged negotiation with Franklin was unsuccessful and deputies with the Henry County SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiations Team deployed chemical munitions into the residence and arrested Franklin, a release stated.
Franklin was charged with three counts of failure to appear and one count of obstruction of justice. Cannoy was charged with probation violation.
Both Franklin and Cannoy were jailed in the Henry County Adult Detention Center without bond.
