Two women were arrested this week on animal cruelty charges after authorities seized more than 100 animals from a home in Coventry where more than half a dozen dead animals were found in the freezer.

The seizures came following an investigation that spanned several weeks after investigators learned that "many animals" were being kept at a home on Dunn Road, according to the Coventry Police Department .

Police said a number of agencies assisted when authorities seized over 100 animals on the property "in varying conditions." Investigators had obtained a search and seizure warrant for the home.

Among the animals that were seized were horses, pigs, dogs, cats, rabbits, goats and various species of birds and fowl, according to police. Additionally, eight dead animals were seized from a freezer in the home and were sent for necropsies at the UConn Veterinary Medical Diagnostics Laboratory , police said.

Following the search of the property, authorities obtained arrest warrants for two residents of the home identified as Sandra Lis and Kristal Lis. They were both arrested this week, according to police.

Kristal Lis has been charged with 119 counts of cruelty to animals. Sandra Lis faces 19 counts of the same charge.

Both suspects were released on non-surety bonds and are expected to face a judge on Oct. 1.

Police said the agencies that assisted in the search and seizure included the State Animal Control Unit, Vernon Animal Control, NECCOG Animal Control, Willimantic Animal Control, Windsor Animal Control, Stafford Animal Control and Deep River/Essex Animal Control.

"We would like to thank these agencies for their assistance which was necessary due to the large number of animals that needed to be transported, housed, and cared for," Coventry police said in a statement.
