Two indicted in Elm Mott truck stop murder
Waco, Tx ( FOX 44 ) – A McLennan County Grand Jury has returned capital murder indictments against Christopher Matthew Beltran and Micha Harris in the July 28th fatal shooting at the Gator Truck Stop at Elm Mott,
In that incident, Dipak Oli was shot and killed.
A the time of his arrest, McLennan County Sheriff noted that Beltran was a confirmed member of the Crips criminal street gang.
An arrest affidavit stated that deputies were dispatched to the Gator Stop #3 near Elm Mott on what was originally listed as a welfare check. A caller had advised he had entered the business and could not find the clerk. Deputies arrived and found a decease male outside of the business who was later identified as Dipak Oli, the missing clerk.
The affidavit stated that during the investigation, surveillance video showed two men enter the store with guns displayed in an attempt at a robbery. The clerk attempted to run from the cash register toward the back door when a suspect wearing a blue mask fired his weapon.
A suspect vehicle was identified by a license plate reader on I-35 as belonging to a vehicle associated with Christopher Matthew Beltran. The affidavit stated that through McLennan County Mug shots, he was identified as a person of interest. On August 22, evidentiary search warrants were executed during which a blue mask was located. The affidavit stated that when questioned, Christopher Beltran gave investigators a statement about the shooting.
An arrest affidavit stated that Christopher Beltran gave information identifying Micha Harris as being present after which time Harris gave deputies a statement.
Warrants for Christopher Beltran and Micha Harris for the offense of capital murder were then obtained.
Christopher Beltran and Micha Harrus were also both charged with aggravated robbery in a separate case involving the robbery of a truck stop in Hewitt the same day.
Suspect, victim in fatal Temple shooting identified
Hewitt police had responded to the report of a robbery of the store at 1001 Enterprise Boulevard. An arrest affidavit stated the clerk told police two men came in and asked for assistance. They then pulled firearms from underneath their clothing and demanded money. The attendant opened the cash register and both suspects began grabbing money out of it. One suspect grabbed the register till and began running out of the business. The other also began running out, but as he ran past the clerk, he stopped and started striking him in the face with a closed fist. The suspects are then seen on video running toward the back of the parking lot.
The affidavit stated that the surveillance video from the Hewitt robbery was compared and that investigators believed from clothing and physical appearance that the two men were involved in both incidents. The affidavit stated that both men also gave statements about the robbery.
Sheriff McNamara said the robbery in Hewitt and the murder near Ross constituted violent events that "significantly impacted our community and has been a focal point of our investigation."
