KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two cities in Johnson County, Kansas, De Soto and Clearview City have issued boil water advisories today, October 18 following a water main break in De Soto.

According to the release from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment , the boil water advisory comes as a contractor struck a 12 inch water main along 95th Street in De Soto. That water main feeds the water tower at Sunflower Road, with the break resulting in a loss of pressure that could lead to contamination.

The release also states that customers should flush the water lines, boil water for one minute prior to drinking or using it to cook, dispose of ice cubes and disinfect dishes and other contact surfaces in clean water.

The advisory will remain in effect until water conditions and risk of contamination are resolved. The public will be notified of any updates via social media and the KDHE website.

Restaurants and other food establishments that have questions can contact the Kansas Department of Agriculture's food safety and lodging program at 785-564-6767.
