(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) arrested two 14-year-olds for a chain of burglaries in the City.

On Oct. 12 and 13, two suspects committed a series of crimes including the burglary of a liquor store where a stolen car was driven through the front door to gain access to the building. Both were also linked to several car thefts and for threatening a witness with a gun.

Detectives quickly connected the crimes to two 14-year-old boys, one of which was arrested three days after the crimes and booked into Zebulon Pike Juvenile Detention and later released with a GPS monitor.

As the investigation continued, detectives found the two boys had also been involved in a series of crimes that had occurred in late August. The crimes included the burglary of a pawn shop in unincorporated El Paso County, two vehicle thefts, the attempted burglary of a gun store, and a second successful burglary of a pawn shop where 28 guns were stolen.

In both burglaries committed, the suspects drove stolen cars through the front door to gain entry to the businesses.

On Friday, Nov. 8, the two 14-year-olds were arrested for the August crimes and booked into Zebulon Pike under charges of second degree burglary, conspiracy to commit second degree burglary, two counts of motor vehicle theft, and 28 counts of possession of a handgun by a juvenile.

CSPD said one firearm has been recovered and detectives are working to identify the other suspects involved.

Former U.S. Rep. Michael Grimm, a New York Republican who resigned from Congress following a tax fraud conviction, is paralyzed from the chest down after being thrown from a horse during a polo tournament, according to friends who are raising funds to pay for the ex-lawmaker's medical care. Grimm, 54, suffered the devastating injury in September and is now being treated at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in New Jersey, where the late actor Christopher Reeve was treated after a similar equestrian accident in 1995, according to Vincent Ignizio, a friend of Grimm's who is a former New York City Council member. "It was a passion of his and he suffered a tragic accident at the end of September," said Ignizio, who has set up a GoFundMe account to pay for Grimm's medical care.
