Press release courtesy of UNK Athletics:

Junior Hanna Schimmer scored for a fourth straight game and Nebraska Kearney recorded its third straight draw, 1-1, Sunday afternoon at Missouri Southern State.

The Lopers (4-0-4, 0-0-2) are now tied with the 2015 squad for the second most ties in school history. The 2019 UNK team had seven draws.

Schimmer (Council Bluffs, Ia.) knotted things up at one midway through the first half. Racing past the MSSU defense, she took a long pass from senior Dolcie Hanlon (Grand Junction, Colo.) and beat keeper Bella Smith on a one-on-one opportunity. Lefty Raliegh Mercer, in 2011, is the only other Loper to have scored in four straight contests.

MSSU (1-4-3, 01-1) got on the board just 8:33 into the action as junior Nathalia Luiz took a pass from freshman Jilliana Reese in the box and scored after her shot bounced into the Loper goal. MSSU's home field is natural grass.

UNK out shot MSSU by a 17-9 margin including an 8-5 effort on goal. However, Smith made seven saves with several other Loper shots sailing high or wide of the goal.

Schimmer had a team-best five shots (three on goal) with freshman Billie Forrest (Taylorsville, Utah) and grad transfer Keila Gillispie (Newton, Kan.) at two apiece. Finally, sophomore keeper Susie Bovaird (Lincoln East) recorded four saves.

The Lopers host Washburn and Central Missouri next weekend at Cope Stadium.
