Up North weekend forecast: A chance for snow, then warmer
J.Johnson3 months ago
After a messy midweek with all precipitation types on the table, weather this weekend is looking calmer. Precipitation chances are fewer and farther between, with lake effect being the main precipitation driver over the weekend. Temperatures are going to be on the chilly side throughout the weekend. Friday is going to be the day of greatest precipitation chances, particularly in the Upper Peninsula. Lake effect snow and rain showers are expected starting tonight and going into Friday, with the heaviest precipitation occurring Thursday night into Friday morning. How much snowfall you’re going to get depends on your elevation, position from the lake, and if a snow band ends up overhead. A couple inches of snowfall is possible with these lake effect showers, depending on how frequent they are. Temperatures are going to get into the mid to upper 30s by Friday afternoon across the Upper Peninsula. In the northern Lower Peninsula, lake effect snow and rain showers are also expected during the day on Friday and into Friday evening, though not much accumulation is expected. About a dusting of snow at most is possible in the Lower Peninsula on Friday in some areas, with other places (particularly closer to the lake) seeing rain mix in as temperatures rise in the afternoon. High temperatures are going to get into the upper 30s to low 40s. By Saturday morning, temperatures are going to be in the upper 20s to low 30s across the U.P. and northern Lower Michigan, with areas along the lake staying in the mid 30s. Any lake effect bands are going to steadily disappear Saturday morning across Northern Michigan, leaving us with drier conditions by the afternoon hours. Partly to mostly cloudy skies are expected once things dry out, with high temperatures in the mid to upper 30s. High temperature forecast for Saturday, November 11NOAA Saturday night, temperatures in the U.P. are going to fall into the upper 20s to low 30s, with slight precipitation chances returning. Widely scattered rain showers are possible late Saturday night into Sunday morning across the U.P., but things will stay dry in northern Lower Michigan. Temperatures south of the Mackinac Bridge are going to drop into the upper 20s to low 30s overnight, with warmer conditions near the lakes. On Sunday, things are going to remain dry across Northern Michigan. Partly cloudy skies are going to be around throughout the day, with high temperatures getting into the low to mid 40s in northern Lower Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. Winds on Sunday are going to be on the strong side, especially as we head into the late afternoon and evening hours. Wind gusts up to 30 mph and sustained winds around 10-15 mph. High temperature forecast for Sunday, November 12NOAA Overall, it’s a mixed bag of a weekend. Some lake effect showers will be around for the first half, along with colder temperatures, but things will dry out and warm up by the second half.
