Urban Meyer scoffs at idea of Ryan Day considering leaving Ohio State if it loses to Michigan again

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer isn’t here to entertain the idea that Ryan Day could leave Columbus after this season. Texas A&M is actively searching for a new head coach after parting ways with Jimbo Fisher and is already compiling a list of names. According to The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman, Day could be on that list depending on how OSU’s game against Michigan plays out. “Don’t be surprised if the Aggies pursue Ryan Day,” Feldman reported on Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff . “As you know, Day is 56-6 as a head coach, and he came within a field goal in the last second of knocking off Georgia in the CFP (last season). But keep in mind, the specter of back-to-back losses to the hated archrival Michigan hangs heavy over Columbus. If they win here today and beat the Wolverines, I seriously doubt – with them in the playoff mix – that he would be taking that call. But the Aggies are optimistic that if they don’t win that game, that he might be open to their pitch.” Meyer, however, saw that idea as nonsense immediately pushing back on the topic. “No way,” Meyer said, laughing. “I love you, Bruce, but no way.” Day worked under Meyer during his first two years in Columbus as an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2017 and 2018. He even served as acting head coach for the first four games of the 2018 season while Meyer served a suspension. Once Meyer retired, he handed the program over to Day ahead of the 2019 season where Day has since gone 56-6 with two Big Ten titles and three College Football Playoff appearances. Day is also 1-2 against Michigan with a chance to get back to .500 in Ann Arbor this afternoon while also punching the Bucikeyes ticket to Indianapolis for the Big Ten Championship Game. It would be the program’s first time back sine 2020.
