BAY COUNTY, Fla. ( WMBB ) – The federal government is taking potential election problems seriously. U.S. Department of Justice officials have announced plans for a nationwide election day program.

Each of the 94 U.S. attorney's offices will have a district elections officer to spearhead the effort.

They'll be responsible for overseeing the handling of election-day complaints.

The good times will flow at Panama City Beach Oktoberfest

Those complaints could include anything from threatening violence against election officials, and staff and intimidating or bribing voters, to buying and selling votes, impersonating voters, altering vote tallies, stuffing ballot boxes, and marking ballots for voters against their wishes.

In our area, the officer will be the Northern District of Florida Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew Grogan.

Grogan will be on duty in the district offices while the polls are open, along with special agents from the FBI field offices.

They're also encouraging anyone who experiences a crime of violence or intimidation to call 911 immediately, before contacting federal authorities.
