US News names 9 Missouri universities among best in Midwest for 2025

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — With the 2024-25 school year underway throughout the country, US News decided to release its list of the best national universities and the best regional universities in each U.S. region for 2025.

For regional universities in the Midwest, Missouri saw nine universities in the state crack the top 100, including two in the top 10.

The highest-ranked university per US News was awarded to Truman State University, which placed fifth overall in the Midwest. Not far behind Truman State is Rockhurst University in Kansas City at seventh overall.

Two universities in Springfield also placed in the top 100. Drury University came in 24th place, followed by Evangel University in 91st place.

The other Missouri universities that made the list include Webster University (31st), Northwest Missouri State University (tied for 67th), Stephens College (tied for 67th), Central Missouri (73rd) and Southeast Missouri State University (82nd).

U.S. News says their rankings are based on graduation and student retention rates, class size, student-to-faculty ratio, SAT and ACT scores, alumni giving rate, and peer assessment.
