USF football comes up short in loss to Bemidji State

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (USF) — (RV) Cougar Football moves to 3-1 on the season after coming up short to (RV) Bemidji State in a close 28-24 game at Bob Young Field today.

SCORING RECAP

USF was shutout in the first quarter but quickly responded in the second when Camden Dean connected with Travis Yohnke for a 12-yard touchdown then again with a 49-yard touchdown pass to Mark Leonard to tie the score at 14 apiece.

Nick Hernandez split the uprights to give The Coo a 17-14 lead while heading into the half.

Dean once again found Leonard for a 5-yard touchdown pass to open the second half and to claim The Coo's largest lead of the day, 24-14.

Bemidji State rallied to force 14 unanswered points and ultimately hand Sioux Falls their first loss this season.

Camden Dean tallied 192-yards of total offense with 174-yards through the air with three passing scores.

The tight ends held it down for The Coo with Mark Leonard pulling down four receptions for 77-yards and two touchdowns while Travis Yohnke pulled down two receptions for 12-yards and a score.

Matt Goehring led USF with eight tackles on the day followed by Garret Hoffman and Andy Henson each with seven.

Isaiah Ward paved the way for the defense with two tackles for a loss of 3-yards while Preston Yohnke and Goehring teamed up for a 1-yard tackle for loss.

UP NEXT

(RV) Sioux Falls (3-1, 2-1 NSIC) will hit the road to take on Minot State (3-1, 2-1 NSIC) next Saturday, September 28 at 1pm in Minot, North Dakota.
