TAMPA — USF quarterback Byrum Brown, who entered Saturday's game against No. 8 Miami as the Bulls' leading passer and rusher, sustained an undisclosed fourth-quarter injury and didn't return.

Brown, who has started the last 19 games for USF, was seen walking under his own power to the team's locker room, but returned to the sideline before the game's end.

Junior Bryce Archie, a Coastal Carolina transfer, replaced him.

Brown actually was banged up twice in Saturday's game, but returned shortly after his initial injury. He finished 19 of 30 for 254 yards, and scored on a 12-yard pass from slot receiver Sean Atkins on a first-quarter gadget play.

His loss for any extended period could prove devastating to the Bulls. He entered Saturday's game ranked second among Football Bowl Subdivision quarterbacks in rushing yards (254) and has thrown for more than 700 yards in four contests.
