Utica man arrested for possessing illicit material

UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) — Oneida County Sheriffs arrested a Utica man on Wednesday after an investigation found he had allegedly possessed exploitative material of children.

The investigation began when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a report that an unknown person had uploaded material of child exploitation to several social media platforms. Further investigation found enough evidence to receive a search warrant for a residence on Caroline Street in the City of Utica.

On Wednesday, November 6, members of the Oneida County Child Advocacy Center executed the search warrant at the residence of the suspect — later identified as 21-year-old Tyler Brown of Utica. Brown was arrested without further incident and transported to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office for processing. He was ultimately charged with:

  • Possessing a Sexual Performance by a Child, a Class E Felony, and

  • two counts of Promoting a Sexual Performance by a Child, a Class D felony.

  • Brown was subsequently transported to the Oneida County Correctional Facility in Oriskany where he was held for arraignement. He was remanded to the Oneida County Jail in lieu of $25,000 cash bail.

    According to the Child Advocacy Center, the case has been referred to the Oneida County District Attorney's Office and further charges are possible.
