UVM community celebrates Diwali

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Hundreds in the Burlington community will be celebrating their 18th annual Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, at the University of Vermont today.

The Indian Subcontinent Student Association is welcoming community members and students to join them for a night of Indian food, culture, dancing, and celebrating.

The student association says the night is a chance to connect with both people who celebrate Diwali and people who want to experience the holiday for the first time

"It feels more, you know, vibrant and friendly and awesome with everyone just dancing on Bollywood music. That's such an awesome thing to witness, so I think it's a great showcase of Indian culture. And also it feels, we feel, very included in the community," Jayita Barua from the Indian Subcontinent Student Association said.

Doors open at the UVM Davis Center at 5 p.m. Tickets for community members are $25, while the cost for students is $12.
