UWS men’s soccer upsets St. Olaf, advances to Sweet 16 for first time in program history
The UWS men's soccer team showed grit and determination on Sunday, as they took down the reigning DIII soccer champions, St. Olaf, 4-2 in penalty kicks.
Felipe Oliveira found the back of the net for UWS in the second half to tie the game up at 1-1, and Josh Bellamy scored his second goal in as many days just minutes after, but St. Olaf would claw back and score at the end of regulation to go to overtime.
In overtime, neither team could trigger the golden goal, pushing the game to penalty kicks.
The first shot of penalty kicks was a Josh Bellamy make, which set the tone for the rest of the Yellowjackets, as they didn't miss any of their chances. Additionally, Alex Peredes stopped two of the Oles shots to clinch the win for the Yellowjackets.
UWS now advances to the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history, and will take on Amherst on November 23rd, with a time to be announced.
